Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo aftercare may not seem like your first priority after getting inked. Your gorgeous tattoo, however, won't remain fresh-looking forever- It needs to be taken care of, and you need to make sure that you stay healthy and safe in the process. A tattoo is essentially an open wound through which bacteria can enter and cause infection and pain. These tattoo health risks can ruin the color of the tattoo. To help keep your ink looking as fresh as the day that you got your tattoo, keep the following mind:

Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

  • After getting inked, keep the bandage on the tattoo for at least 5 hours, but no more than 12 hours
  • When you remove your bandage, do it under warm running water to avoid damaging the tattoo
  • Wash the tattoo with warm, soapy water. For best results, use an unscented soap
  • Apply a lotion or moisturizer to the tattoo several times a day for about 2 weeks, until the tattoo stops peeling
  • Don't pick or scratch your tattoo- Let your skin peel. Don't worry if the color initially flecks off, this is just dead skin
  • Try not to soak the tattoo until it has completely peeled
  • Avoid exposure to the sun. If you must be exposed to the sun, use an effective sun protection product. Be sure that you know how to choose the best sunscreen product for your skin type.
  • Don't shave the area where your tattoo is until it has completely and totally healed
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help. Call your tattoo artist or doctor if you have questions or concerns. You can also feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Our medical team will be happy to answer your questions. Remember, there is no such thing as a dumb question!
  • After the tattoo has healed, the aftercare process is far from complete, however. Exposure to the elements and exposure to the sun can cause your ink to fade, causing your gorgeous, unique tattoo to look dull and old. A tattoo aftercare product such as Tattoo Boost, can nourish and hydrate your skin, while simultaneously restoring luster and shine. Use of a tattoo cream can save you money by helping you eliminate the need to get re-inked. When choosing an aftercare product, be sure that the tattoo cream won't clog your pores and that the formula is not greasy or slippery- After all, you don't want your hands to slide around when you're riding your bike or completing daily tasks. Apply the product to your tattoo on a regular basis, and be sure to apply it liberally before being exposed to the sun for a prolonged time. It's also a good idea to apply the tattoo aftercare product in conjunction with a sunscreen for extra protection. Finally, using other skin care products, such a moisturizer and a hydrator, can keep the wound area soft and moist, keeping you comfortable. Today's skin care products are equally suited for both men and women alike.

You've made a major commitment to yourself and to your freedom by getting inked with a tattoo. You've also taken a step towards carving out the next chapter of tattoo history. By knowing what's involved with tattoo aftercare ahead of time and learning some basic tattoo information and tattoo risks, you can be sure that your ink will look and feel great for years to come.
